Toyota Camry 2015: Does a missing compliance plate devalue it?

Asked by Kirri

How much would a missing compliance plate devalue a 2015 Toyota Camry, in terms of resale of a used late-model car? If you know, can you provide a breakdown of the cost components and reasoning for the estimated valuation of any intangible component/s? Is it worthwhile or even possible to replace it? The compliance sticker was removed as part of a panel repair process after an accident.

It’s hard to put a number on the price reduction you could expect on a car without a compliance plate. People suspect the car could be dodgy when the plate is missing. Who is to say that the missing plate isn’t out there somewhere on another car? I would be reluctant to buy a car without a compliance plate.
