Slow starting Nissan Micra

In the past couple of months on some cold mornings my 1995 Nissan Micra SLX will turn over, but will not start. I have had a new fuel pump, new spark plugs, and a good battery fitted, and I have had it checked by an auto electrician and mechanics who changed a temperature sensor and high tension leads and checked the alternator. It may sound strange, but laying a thermal blanket over the engine and one normal blanket over the bonnet has solved the problem, although it is inconvenient. Once the car starts, I have no further troubles and when I take it to the mechanic after work the car always starts first time every time. No one seems to know what the solution is; I hope you can help me with this dilemma.

Putting the blankets over the engine and bonnet means the engine doesn't cool as much while sitting overnight, so isn't as cold when you come to start it in the morning. I'd say you need a new battery, one with good cold cranking power, as I reckon the drain on the battery as it tries to turn the engine over is too high and the engine isn't getting enough power to start. Once it fires it's fine, that's because it's then not having to power the starter.
