Should the carmaker pay for the labour on replacement parts?

My 2010 Holden Cruze’s transmission was replaced in 2012, but it went again two weeks ago. The Holden Dealer assessed it, and has told me they would replace the transmission for free, but I would have to pay for the labour. Is it normal to pay for the labour, or should Holden be paying for this?

It is quite common for a carmaker to offer to pay for parts, i.e. the transmission, and charge the owner for the labour. While you would like to think Holden would pay for everything the car is eight years old and well beyond its warranty period. If you would like to pursue Holden for the total cost contact its customer service (18000 033 349).
