Q

We have recently moved from Queensland to Melbourne and our 2008 Nissan Patrol 4X4 2008 has developed bubbling on the vinyl dashboard. Is this a common problem and is it warranty issue?

A

I would doubt that Nissan would entertain a warranty claim for a bubbled dash, but it's worth a try if you want to take them on. You could get the dash doctor to have a look at it and see what they think has caused the problem.

  • My Nissan Patrol (2007 GUIV) also had a bubbling dash and I was resigned to the fact that I would have to live with it so bought a dash mat to protect it over the longer term but to no avail.

I got talking with another patrol owner that I know who had a similar issue and had raised it with Nissan.  They replaced his dash for him, although charged him labour because he had purchased the vehicle at auction and wasn’t the original owner.

When I approached my Nissan dealer during its last service in September they surprisingly replaced the dash as a warranty claim entirely free of cost to me!!

It turns out it is a manufacturing issue with a range of dashes that were mad in a particular plant which used an inferior glue which delaminated over time causing the bubbles.

Nissan obviously isn’t going to recall the vehicles as it is not safety related but likely to cost them a few $$‘s.

Get stuck into the dealer and dont take no for an answer!!

    Good luck.

  • Our Nissan has done the same. We are really annoyed as paid an extra $3000 for paint and dash protection…applied by Nissan. Ours is never in the sun so very, very surprised and ANNOYED.
