Nissan Navara fuel consumption

The sticker on my 2009 turbo-diesel Nissan Navara King Cab auto quoted 9.2 L/100 km and I thought 11 or 12 would be acceptable, but the best I have achieved in the 35,000 km I?ve done in it is 16.8 L/100 km with the average being 18 L/100 km. The Nissan dealer has checked it and says all is in spec. They claim that the dealer-fitted bullbar is part of the problem. I am 60 years old and drive like most old farts, but this one takes the lemon award hands down.

Clearly the consumption is much higher than you would reasonably expect, and while the bulbar might cause a small increase in the consumption it’s not likely to have that dramatic affect. Take the vehicle back to the dealer and ask them to check the consumption themselves to confirm what you claim it to be, then ask them to find the cause of the high consumption. If necessary call Nissan in as well, and if all else fails go to tell them you want your money back as they have not provided you with a car that does what they claimed it would do.

  • I am getting 12.1, which after reading your comments sounds excellent. I still think its too high. It is a Nissan Navara 2.5 dci d/c 4x2 2011. I can fill 80l but only get 650km roughly.

  • I got a stx king cab 2011 manual the first 7000 ks where sweet 10.3 liters per 100 and getting 600 a tank only ever put 62 litres in it. Was like clock work. Load didnt matter and then at a drop of a hat dropped to 500 ks and filling up with 72 liters still regard less of load been to Nissan atleast 4 time and all they say is the car is fine 14.3 liters is normal and that its not considered a problem till it goes over 17liters. Needless to say i have it back in there again and im not going to stop taking it back till it is fixed. I will be taking it to fair trading after speaking to Nissan head Office Office

  • Mine is the same, have a 2011 ST with the 2.5 Auto Diesel- In the beginning could not get any more than 450km from the tank- two problems, the tank despite being 80 litres will only accept 65 litres dribbling in the last few litres, and even after my first service barely manages 540-550 km’s unladden and freeway driving- city driving im lucky to get 400 k’s.
Nissan offered to do a ‘fuel remap’... which appeared to get more k’s. Then I realised, what they did, was change the time at which the low fuel light turned on.. Before this, I could do almost 50-60 k’s once the low fuel lamp came on- now, it comes on, and i’ve run out of diesel twice because once the lamp comes on, you’ve got 5-6 kilometres of fuel left to find a servo!

  • I have a 2011 Nissan Navara stx king cab and can not get better then 14.5 l/100km unloaded, put a load on its ridiculous. It’s been back to McGrath Nissan at Liverpool 4 times with no result. They have told me there IS a problem with the auto only as the manual gets around 700+ per tank. Have taken them to fair trading for selling me a vehicle that is doing what they advertised.

  • I have a 2003 twin cab 4x4 3litre deisel Navara and recently towed a number of caravans from Bayswater Vic. to Bendigo and later returned. Fuel consumption towing was around 13lt per 100km with consumption of 9.6lt per 100km’s when not towing. I have been told by several people that fitting a Dchip and after-market exhaust system; with inter cooler; will decrease fuel use by around 10% and increase torque/power by up to 30%.

  • I too had a 07 navara diesel that consistently gets 10-11L/100kms.brought new 2010 stx navara and cant get better than 15l/100km. dealer and Nissan claim all in specs. Loosing about 150km tank compared to my Mazda bt50. This is due to the diesel particulate filter and Nissan trying to meet Euro Emissions but stuffed it up somewhere (07 model didn?t have the DPF)! Wasting time contacting Nissan they won?t do anything at all. Stay away from Nissan really bad customer service!!
