Q

I have been advised that the chain timing belt or the tensioners don't require changing in my 2004 3.2-litre turbo-diesel Mitsubishi Pajero. Could you please confirm this?

A

That's correct, the 3.2-litre turbo-diesel engine has a timing chain, not a belt, so doesn't need to be replaced.

  • Smithy is correct about not needing to change your timing chain but the upper tensioner guide does need to be checked and replaced. It’s a cheap part and can be easily done when getting your tappets adjusted. If this part fails the damage caused is catastrophic.
