Make a noise

Q

MY 2007 Nissan Tiida ST six-speed hatch has had a metallic sound coming from either the gearbox or clutch since I bought it. When I mentioned the noise to the dealer when it was in for a service I was told they either heard nothing or I had nothing to worry about. The noise would disappear when the clutch was depressed and return when the clutch was released. At the most recent service, 40,000km, I was told the noise was ``gearbox chatter'' and completely normal, and was possibly caused by the oil breaking down through use, but other manual Tiidas don't exhibit the noise. At my latest service the mantra was repeated that if I have any concerns to mention it when the vehicle is next serviced. To my way of thinking, a metallic rattling or noise suggests an adjustment is required somewhere. What can you suggest?

A

MAKE an appointment with the service manager to drive the car with him, point out the noise and ask him to explain why it's not a problem. If the explanation doesn't satisfy you, demand it be fixed.
