    Toyota LandCruiser: sent into limp home mode

    After driving my 2003 Toyota Landcruiser turbo-diesel 4.2-litre automatic for a couple of hours and then idling at the traffic lights it will not rev past 2000 revs when I go to accelerate, there's no power whatsoever. Turn the engine off and leave for a few seconds and restart - problem gone and the vehicle acts normal. May happen every two or three weeks - very intermittent. I have taken it to the dealer to have diagnostic testing done, which showed a fault with the accelerator control switch, but it still has same problem. Have you come across this problem?

    The computer is detecting a problem and sending the car into limp home mode, which explains the lack of power when it happens. Turning the ignition off and restarting it resets the computer, so it will drive normally. It's not possible to say what is causing the problem, but it's likely to be a sensor, perhaps the oxygen sensor, or an electrical connection.
