Q

I AM thinking of buying a mid-'90s Holden Barina GSi, but I have heard it needs premium fuel. Is this correct, or can they run on normal unleaded or E10? Is there anything else to watch out for in this model car apart from hard-driven or abused examples?

A

HOLDEN recommended 91 RON regular unleaded for the SB Barina GSi, so it would run satisfactorily on E10. The main issues are regular servicing and hard driving.

  • Facts are facts SB Barina 1.4 and 1.2 can run on 91. If you run them on 95 or better there is a plug near the brake power booster you turn around and it has 95 printed on it they run heaps better on 95. Now SB Barina GSi sports model they are 1.6 16 valve motors is only to be run on 95 ron or better, that’s a fact. I had a 1.4 SB now have a 1.6 GSi. pocket rocket. Also SB Barinas are nothing like swifts SB stands for Spanish built. Not Japan Earlier models were same as swifts rebadged. Thank you

  • Yeah but the sb GSI is only to run on premium GSI 1.6 16 valve. I wouldn’t run E10 in my lawn mower

  • What a crock! It is plainly stated from a plethora of sources, including the OWNER’S MANUAL, that the Barina GSi requires 95RON fuel to run optimally.

Get your facts straight before providing sage advice…......

Actually, Fred, the plethora of sources state that the Barina can run on either 91 or 95.
