Engine life

CAN you tell me what is the average life of a normal engine?

IMPOSSIBLE to say. It depends on so many factors, including the way the engine is used, servicing and the oils used. Modern engines last much longer. It wasn't unusual to be grinding valves or re-ringing engines every 50,000km or so in the 1950s. Today you really don't touch an engine, apart from servicing, until 200,000km, and they'll last much longer if well cared for.
