A unique 'wing cam' created by Kelly Racing will put a new slant on Bathurst '09.
A unique 'wing cam' created by Kelly Racing will put a new slant on Bathurst '09.
It's been 30 years since Channel 7 first successfully beamed live in- car pictures from Peter Williamson's Celica at Mount Panorama and this time around there will be 49 cameras in 10 cars. The newest is the tail-end camera installed in the Kelly brothers' Commodore, sitting in the right-hand side of the rear wing to give a forward-facing view of the Jack Daniels racer and the rest of the V8 Supercar pack.
The Channel 7 crew is bigger than ever for Bathurst this year, with Neil Crompton leading a team of 315 people with 116 cameras. But no car is as well covered as the Kelly Commodore — with six cameras in total.
Apart from 'wing cam', there is a rotating camera on the passenger's side facing forward, on in the passenger footwell looking up at the driver, one in the rear looking over the driver's left shoulder, one in the left taillight looking backwards and a final camera underneath the car looking backwards at the differential and rear suspension linkages.
