    This new time underlines Nissan engineering team’s commitment to constantly challenge the GT-R’s performance.

The Nissan GT-R, winner of the 2009 World Performance Car of the Year, has set a new record at the Nurburgring.

Nissan announced earlier today that the car had improved its lap time at the renowned Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany to 7min 26 seconds 70 on April 23.

The Nissan GT-R’s previous recorded lap times at the ‘Ring’ were:

* 7 minutes 27 seconds 56 on April 15, 2009
* 7 minutes 29 in April 2008
* 7 minutes 38 in September 2007

"This record demonstrates our commitment to the continuous evolution of the Nissan GT-R," says Kazutoshi Mizuno, chief vehicle engineer and chief vehicle specialist.

"We would like to continue delivering the passion and pride of ownership to our customers by improving its performance every year."

  • How do you explain the 10000 a year running cost Mike?

  • why is everyone so jealous of nissan GTR, this car is simply amazing, nothing comes close to it, ferrari porsche, u name it , on track it will blow it away, this car corners faster then any other car on the planet, and thats why its got special inserts on the wheel arches so wheels dont fall off during cornerin, it lost on nuburgring againt corvette zr1 which did 7 26 and nissan did 7 29 not because it was slower in corners but beacuse Zr1 was faster on the straight bits, if it only had another 100 horses it would be even more amazin to drive. the only bad thing about nissan is the runnin costs which add up to 10 000 a year, whereas porsche 911 tubro comes up to 5000 .

  • Would anyone be voicing scepticism if this time were set by a Porsche or Ferrari? Hardly. If they've done it with a stock car, in stock trim, then what an awesome effort. Great stuff

  • nice work nissan, wonder how long it takes Porsche to call bulls***... as for independent tests and laws of physics, what makes people assume we (or car manufacturers)have been pushing the laws' limits already? People said flying was impossible back in the day...

  • wow, the 'record' was set on April 23rd ... wonder why they take so long to announce their "achievement"... hmmm ... Funny how cars that are lighter AND with more HP get such times ... one cannot defy the laws of physics ... I wonder what the boost setting on that car was! And what brake pads the behemoth used!! All std of course they would say haha ... yeah rightio ... independent tests have shown what the truth really is...
