Kia Australia is recalling more than 1000 vehicles over a wiring issue.

Part of a worldwide voluntary recall affecting some  85,000 vehicles, the issue applies locally to 1029 Sorrento Platinum SUVs and 27 of the Soul3.

Kia spokesman Kevin Hepworth said the wiring glitch has the "potential to cause heat damage" in the Soul's mood lighting and in the Sorrento's armrest.

"All owners will be contacted," Mr Hepworth said. "It's a fix that will take half-an-hour for the Soul and an hour for the Sorrento."  He added that there have been no reports of damage.
