Holden Cruze recall

71 reported cases of fuel leaks has led to the recall of over 9,000 Holdens.

Fuel leaks in 71 Holden Cruze cars have forced a safety recall of 9098 vehicles.

GM Holden product communications senior manager Jonathan Rose said the problem with the leaky fuel feed hose was restricted to the 1.8-litre petrol model Cruze.

"We are aware of 71 cases of a reported fuel leak due to this condition," he said. "There have been no accidents or injuries as a consequence of the minor leak and in some incidents there was a strong fuel smell. If any customers had brought the car in to their dealer the part was corrected and replaced under warranty and the part then sent back to Holden for investigation. We are contacting all impacted customers and are asking them to contact their Holden Dealer to book a free vehicle inspection."

Owners can contact their Holden dealer or the Holden Recall and Rework Assistance Centre on 1800-632-826.

Holden stopped delivery and sale of the Cruze model last week while it was investigating the matter.

  • I brought my Cruze September 2011, I was so happy with the car up until, the car was in accident couple of weeks ago. The car parked outside my friends house, on a slight slope, hand brake on . Than we heard a bang , dogs barking. The car had rolled and hit my friends home , 2 weeks in smash repairs , took it to Holden they found no fault at all. So shocked by this! This week I have been searching the net and I have found people in this situation. I don't have confidence in this car any more and will not park on a hill !!! Will not recommand this car !!

  • Cruze cd turbo was charged price of Sri and was expecting that ford person by heart this car was over charged, did not get 12month ergo nor 12month ctp also interest they lied about the complete carfare package - it is a scam we paid for the entire lot but only got paint protection, fixed servicing was also increased after agree on certain amount deposit also not added to the total trade in they gave me. Extremely low though they were so now I am heading to the tribunal.

  • I have a Series II Manual CD purchased in June 2011. Have just had Code 65 appear on a few occasions.. does anyone know what this means? I also have problems with front passenger door - I have to slam it really hard to get the interior light to turn off and the door open indicator on dash to turn off.. And then it often comes back on after a short time.. Other than that no hassles.. so far...

  • Cat of Albury posted on 26 Dec 2011 and commented that all the wheel archliners have been replaced. On my Cruze at 15,000km both front wheel arch covers have long splits. There is no visible impact damage and the car has never been off sealed roads. Has anyone seen similar problems? Holden response is that it is all my fault for running over some objects that curiously left no sign of impact damage. We are still negotiating. Other than that irritant the car is going well and the 2l diesel manual is brilliant.

  • I have a Holden Cruze bought in 2010 brand new. Already five times I had to bring it to Holden Harrisson Mildura for corrosion on positive terminal. The fifth time they change the battery and the terminal and told me its for free because it occur while the battery was on warranty the first time and they never find any fault.. Now they sent me a bill because they say...it was not a genuine Holden part at origin...hello...it's not my problem wich part they put in...what a rip off. I didnt pay yet and wont. Is there anyone with same problem...?

  • We bought a Holden Cruze CDX 2010 model auto had nothing but problems with it within two months of having the vehicle we noticised a battery leak from which the acid ran down the engine arts and onto our chassis rusting all the parts on the motor and thr chassis after many attempts in trying to getting it fixed finally they fixed the car $10,000 worth of damage lucky under warranty had break issues plus numerous recalls and now after two years of having the vehicle we now have another battery leak, again needs repairsand the mechanic at Holden asked us what we think is causing the problems they're the manufacturers of the vehicle they should know whats the problem. The motor is no way strong enough for the weight of the vehicle and its so sluggish. I feel disgusted with Holden and my vehicle I will get rid of the car before warranty runs out and will never buy a Holden again ever

  • I think the best Cruze to buy by the sound of this lot is an ex-GM used or demo.

  • Have a 2009 2l diesel cruze, part of holden leasing fleet.. well. crome on both inside front door handles replaced,(were peeling off and cutting our hands!) USB connector replaced after 12 month telling dealer it didn't work, outside temp gauge replaced twice and still not very accurate, plastic kit around rear vision mirror fell off, all of the plastic wheel arch liners have been replaced, first set of tyres worn completely at 40,000km, speakers distorted, very sluggish on take off, inside door panel coming apart, BUT the very worst is that TWICE now the air con has ceased working due to a hole in the condenser...... not covered under warranty.. how ridiculous.. i have been driving for over 30yrs with many cars and never had this problem. The air con is not very efficient when it does work.. also has been recalled twice, for seat belt problem and now the fuel hose..the interior console lights aren't visible when the headlights are on,

  • I have the 2010 Cruze, it has had the dics in the rear removed and the callipers and had to be greased and put back, it was noisy and being female I didnt know what I was talking about. My problem now is that the tyres are wearing on the rear insde and out side at 1700 and I have been told that this is normal why a statement that they are normal when it does this beets me this is the 3rd set of tyres on the rear, they have been balanced regulary and rotated. Car has done 65000 and this has been on going. We paid for a new car. That is crap and the after sales from the Geelong dealer is appalling . We want the back chamber adjusted but they say no way. My mechanic says it can be done. I believe this is a design fault and the designer should go back to the drawing board before she collects her next pay cheque.

  • I bought a CDX Diesel 2010 Cruze. I have had numerous error messages and a smashed condensor. I fought Holden to reimburse me. I won. I was on holidays last week and the car broke down and after being stranded for 4 days NRMA towed the car back home for me. (380 klms) Holden Roadside are useless - Holden customer service were rude. The car has been at my local dealer for 2 days with no sign of being repaired because they can't get the 'computer' to find the Cruze. The diesel filter is not automatically cleaning and it has clogged up. The car has done 35,000 klms. I am frustrated, angry and without transport. I demanded a courtesy car today so I could get to work and I was given a trade in which is filthy, smells - and finally I cried. I am a single female, 62, and I dont know where to turn to next. I paid nearly $35,000 for this heap of #$#%#%

  • I wasn't impressed with mine either! It rattled, clunked and shaked, the back speakers distorted, the handbrake was shonkey and when parked in first gear it indeed rolled down hills. I'm glad I got rid of mine! Stick with my VZ I think.

  • Well I have a Holden Cruze 2009 CDX and I have issues with it as well … 7 things to be precise. The auto gear box has a sluggish gear change, front and rear breaks rattle (I have been told it just needs dampeners) both rear speakers distort (not from loud music), DE lamination of inside chrome driver side door lever, rattle in side right front door, rattle in parcel shelf, fuel economy (not the average fuel consumption) jumps from 5.6 L/100 to 7.3 L/100 and in between. I’m not bloody happy it has only done 12,000 kms. Thank Christ for warranty!

  • It appears that you all love this car as much as me. My fiance bought a 2010 CD manual model. * Parked in first gear on a steep incline the car rolls backward. first gear alone should hold the vehicle - not to mention almost pulling the handbrake through the ceiling of the car to get it to engage properly. * The internal door handles are delaminating. * The left tweeter does not tweet (apparently diagnostics can't pick up any issues - maybe they will find a problem when warranty is up). * There is a nasty shudder coming from the front end when turning the key over. * The window seals don’t appear to work very well (maybe due to the design of the vehicle) as when it is windy or travelling at speeds in excess of 60km you can hear the whistle of wind.

  • Andrea Vidal! YES!!! Mine has a handbreak issue too. I'm currently arguing with the dealership as they keep telling me its "SELF ADJUSTING" which it may well be but it doesn't work! My car rolled out of my driveway into the street. Thank gosh no-one was hurt.

  • I bought my Cruze in January 2011 and at 4,000km the auto transmission went bang and I lost all drive, it went bang again and the drive came back Valve in box changed. 3,000km later same problem gear box changed. At 11,000km trouble with gear box again at 40 kmh. Going in to dealer again this Thursday. Let?s hope this time they fix the problem.

  • I've had my Holden Cruze for 3 weeks and the handbrake failed. My car smashed into my rented house! I have a steep driveway. Left the car in a parked position at the top of my driveway. Engine off. Handbrake on. My family and I went inside the house after a few minutes we hear a loud "BANG!" and it was my car that rolled down my driveway and smashed against my house ... Has anyone had any issues with their handbrake?

  • I brought a Holden Cruze in August 2010. Loved the car until last week when the automatic transmission went. I had complained on numerous occasions with regards to the high revs when the car is trying to change to 5th gear but was told this was normal. Obviously not! I was driving along and the car no longer was driving. The drive gear had completely gone. The car is now at the dealership being fixed apparently they are saying it could be the valve if it is not this then the transmission will have to be replaced. I have always dealt with Holden and would have hoped my car would not break down 12 months after getting it. It now makes me feel very anxious about driving it when I get it back as I do a lot of highway driving and would not like to be in the same position again.

  • I have a "faulty electronic Transmission" that Holden say it?s a factory fault. I have had my car away for 5 days and the costumer service from (Holden, Ballarat road - Dennis) doesn?t provide any customer assistance or car hire. Bad customer service!!! Who has to pay my expense for this fault? Me!

  • Have excessive noise in the rear end and badly chopped out tyres on the rear [7oooks] had second set of tyres on them. Rear noise sounds like bad shockers. Dealer service has not been satisfactory as was reported at 10000ks service. Noise is worse. Had wheel alignment and balance. All good. Noisy on the uptake when on cruise control and very slow. seatbelt cuts my neck badly[I'm female and 102kgs] seat needs to be put back each time I get into it as I hit my head in the roof. [5;6] the aero dynamics is not good at the rear passenger door joins, very dirty and marks your clothes with entry to the back seat. Opening the boot after rain, water drips onto good clothes and whatever is in the boot, a wedding cake ruined from rain. Blind spot for driver is from the thickness of the front window frame and the rear vision mirrors! NO salesman should ever sell a car to a man, for his wife, without her trying it first.

  • I've had a 1.8L petrol CDX for about 18 months and had no major problems but a few irritants. The material on the steering wheel delaminated and started peeling off. Its stopped now but its still visible. Its underpowered and the auto gearbox sometimes can't decide which gear it wants to be in (alternates frequently between 3rd and 4th) which can be annoying. Overall its been good value for money. Its well-appointed and is a comfortable ride.

  • to all the people claiming that the cruze is a daewoo, its not a ******* badged daewoo!!!!!!!!! the lacetti became the barina, the captiva is a re badged daewoo and the new barina spark is a re badged new generation matiz. yes the cruze was built in the old daewoo factory but like the VE commodore it was redesigned from the ground up. both cars now built in Australia. oh and people calling them cheap, 25 to 30 grand aint cheap to a lot of people! most people might only be able to afford a spark, alto or a micra. i would expect these issues from these types of cars not from holden and not at the price they are charging, all of the issues described in all these posts are down right disgraceful!!!!!!!!!! PULL YOUR HEADS IN HOLDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Had our Cruze approx 9 months. Problems starting it the other morning (CDX petrol). Engine warning light came on approx 2 hours later. Not sure the problem yet; waiting for feedback from Holden. Otherwise not bad value. To all those saying "you get what you pay for..", you should pull your heads in and read a copy of the Consumer Credit Act. This is Australia in 2011, not some third world country full of numpty's.

  • New story- 2011 June CDX diesel manual Cruze. Drove 300m from pick up at dealership and engine died at first traffic light. It had 10m waiting to get into the traffic behind someone else so wasn't stone cold. In one week since then we've had 56 more "stalls" without really being at a final stall point. Both manual drivers or 30 yrs plus experience. New and different car maybe need to get used to but has anyone had similar with the same vehicle?

  • My son has recently had his 2010 Cruze in for a repair for what is an alleged 'rock that apparently punctured the fuel tank. Very dangerous. Holden refused to honour the warranty there were many arguments about how a rock could possibly damage the tank. In the end Holden won my son had to pay for a new tank. Its appalling,. Wonder if anyone else has had trouble like this with their Cruze. He hasn?t had any troubles with the car other than that. But its put him off ever buying another Holden.

  • i was starting to think am i the only one who has had problems with a Cruze? Bought it brand new 2009 CD model - had nothing but problems - within 6 weeks, problems with indicator lamp lights in dash, accentuators need replacing, brakes make clunking noise whilst in reverse, lighting for audio system sometimes does not go on, steering can make clunking noises and fuel hose was faulty .. i leaked half a tank of petrol in the middle of the road before realising the problem due to the smell!! haven't found it slow to take off, had issues with pulling to the left or transmission..yet - have recently wrote a letter to holden as sick of all the faults and being without my car so often! Wont hold my breathe though

  • I brought my 2010 plated holden cruze 25th feb 2011 i have had many issues with it and i actually have made a complaint to customer service at holden because nothing was being done to fix it now im taking it in friday for them to have another look and talk to the holden techs these are my issue: 1. 0-30km wobbles under acceleration. 2. on braking sharply the brakes clunk. 3. car tends to hang to the left. 4. fan on heater/ac squeaks. 5. My Transmission can lose power for a short time when i first take off or going up hills.

  • I brought a Holden Cruze cdx petrol and i have all sorts of problems that no one can fix so they say my transmission always revs out even when my foot isnt on the accelerator its like my car drives it self half the time, it drinks petrol like no tomorrow a full tank last me maybe 2-3 days which is shit.. my window goes down by it self, and the only recall i have had was for the seat belts, and when i got it they said that the lean to the left was normal. and my passenger front seat clicks back and forth every time i drive just by it self... i feel unsafe driving my car and if i could get a refund i would. i have had a lot of new cars but this has got to be the worst car i have had.. never again and no one can even help a female with these problems worst service and worst car

I feel like i'm driving a sauna on wheels and the noise from the brakes is alarming, this they say has been fixed. so i am now going to think what my options are and if Holden dont come up with something to fix the heat problem and the holden service centre said they had a few people with this problem will not be keeping this car, Hope Holden come good

  • I bought a new Cruze CD diesel in August 2010. Wobbles at 20kmh. Holden claim it is a characteristic of vehicle, not a fault ... yeah right. Pulls to left constantly. Three wheel alignments, repositioning of strut and rear axle, still pulls left. Never recommend one to any buyer. Holden don't care. Huge disappointment. Can't afford to trade and lose thousands. Stuck with a lemon.

  • My new Cruze has very stiff suspension, If you try to push the front of the car up and down it will only move 5mm. It?s as though the wheels are mounted solid to the body. On the road you feel every little bump as a jolt though the seat that is made of wood.

Absolute disapointment especially when the service department didnt actually car out the 1000kms service when they stamped my log book and tore the coupon out... perhaps the car would have soo many issues if they had just done the job in the first place.

The car has switched off on me and stalled because the oil cap was not fitted on properly. My handbrake doesn?t work properly and my transmission is also not great.... all this started after one week of buying my car in late march 2010. Holden has had my car 9 times in 6 months!

  • I purchased a Holden Diesel CD, I have issues with the particle filter saying that there is dirty fuel. The way Holden fixed this problem was to take my car out for a floging and clean the filter out, instead of fixing the problem properly, now the car runs rough and makes some very weird noises. I will never buy a Holden again.

  • My girlfriends CDX was put in for a service 4 weeks after the initial purchase because of a battery recall issue, then the fuel needed to be fixed. Now the car has done 1920kms and has an average 18.2 litres per kms. This is "seriously" a major fuel consumption issue as I own a HSV GTO and the Holden Cruz CDX 2010 model consumes more petrol than my car.

I have had problems with the console lights going out when the head lights go on and problems with the car stalling in reverse and first gear. Today I was told this is normal... I have to use the handbrake for the slightest hill and the car jerks when creeping in traffic. Does anyone else have a problem with their clutch?

  • Khanh, yes I have found the same with regards to warm air from the ventilation, even when the heating is set to minimum and even on a realtively cool day you get warm air from the vents. I love the Cruze in general, but I believe the car was designed for cool climate countries (heated seats in the CDX is a dead giveaway). The airconditioning isn't that efficient either. Hopefully they will modify this for the Aussie built version.

Shaun Taylor of Adelaide Posted on 03 May 2010 9:31pm
  • To all those bagging the "cheap" cars.. Have you read the recalls about Porsche and Ferrari... Uumm, not cheap but still being recalled due to design faults. It appears that it doesn't matter how much you spend on a car, it may still have a fault.. Ohh and I owned a Daewoo Matiz (yes, the throw away car) for almost 10 years, with only 1 fault, which was repaired under warranty. If you don't want problems with a car... Don't own one, that is the only sure fire trick.,

  • We have had our Holden Cruze CDX 2010 1.8L petrol for about 3 months. We have had the fuel hose, battery and USB module replaced. Our dealer was very helpful with the above replacements. One more issue remaining to be identified whether it is the car's design or is it a problem? I am curious if other Cruze owners experience the same. The fan blows out very warm air, like heating air. The setting is adjust to cold air blowing from outside. This doesn't happen all the times, it seems to happen after driving for about 20 minutes then stopping the car for a couple of minutes then drive again. Once it happens, it will continue to blow out hot air for the rest of the trip. If the car is driving at a fast speed (ie on the freeway) it tends to slowly giving cooler air again, driving on a 60km or less zones will continue giving hot air. When stopping at traffic light, it blows out even hotter air. The above example is on a cool 19 degree C day. Our current way to overcome the problem is to have the air conditioning on at all times. Not sure what to expect when winter comes.

  • Yeah. Unless you own the type of car in question, you shouldn't bag it.

Tony of Cabramatta Posted on 23 March 2010 9:23pm
  • This is the same problem that occured on Daewoo Nubira's back in 2001... Hang on - this is the latest version of that. The Holden Cruze is just a Daewoo Lancetti made in Korea. Back in 2001 when I worked with Daewoo they had the same recall. They used to catch on fire back then. At least if you buy a Hyundai you know you are buying a cheap and nasty car, not being sold down the line by GM. Happy BBQing Cruze owners!

  • With all the recalls about on new vehicles, no one is safe. You expect to not have a problem when buying new and part with your hard earned cash or sign up for parting with your cash for years to come and you get this recall crap over and over again on most all makes of motor vehicles. I believe dealerships should and must refund the customer in full if their vehicle is a recall, then it is to be crushed and sent to the scrap heap. This in turn will make the manufacturers responsible for the junk they make and force the quality up or they go broke. Quality service and repairs is a huge problem as well, read your log book and you will be amazed what is not done in any service interval that you have parted hundreds of dollars for. Some items listed can not be done in the short time in a dealership service but you still get charged for it. A dealership or large garage service centre turns out dozens of so called serviced vehicles a day, with a big shed and a handful of staff, most of are non-trades people. You make the call. Stand up for yourself, without customers they have no business. Best of all, tell all the people you know about a bad vehicle or service you get.

  • Sarah of Melbourne, I do own a Cruze, big mistake! Nothing but problems and the quality is appalling. Never again will I fall for supposed badge reputation. Holden, now badge engineering.

  • I've had my Cruze for 6 months now and I do not have one complaint!! For all of you that are sitting at the computer bagging out cars - get a life... don't you have more important things to do??? The only reason I am on this was because I heard of he recall, but your comments are just so pathetic. why get so uptight about something that doesn't even effect you - do you own a Cruze - no?? go get a job or a hobby!! I love my Cruze!! smile

Sarah of Melbourne Posted on 23 March 2010 2:42pm
  • Well I'm with Leanne White and Nunya Zimmer as well. We have absolutely no complaints about our Cruze. Its a great looking car inside & out especially sice I fitted the sports suspension and mag wheels. ..Actually one complaint - they are a tad under-powered. A turbo HSV (ala Insignia) version would be nice!

  • Holden stands for HOPE OUR LUCK DOESN'T END NOW. Typical Holden junk of a car, with typical rubbish (or lack of) service to go with it....GO FORD!!!!

  • Holden/Daewoo Cruze, what do you expect?

PN Gosford of Gosford Posted on 23 March 2010 10:56am
  • I have owned my Cruze CDX Petrol for 6 months now. I have smelt fuel in my garage after I have come home. It has been back at my Holden Dealer 2 times now due to the engine and transmission. I like my Cruze but it has been quite anoying. I test drove a diesel Cruze about two weeks ago and loved it, so I am considering trading my petrol Cruze for a diesel Cruze. My Holden Dealer hasn't been very good with vehicle servicing which has been dissapointing. I have had many Holden's in the past years and they have been very good and this experence hasn't been up to standard!

Pete Hughes of Buderim Posted on 21 March 2010 5:20pm
  • I am with Nunya Zimmer of Muswellbrook on this one. I have the 2lt diesel also and not had a problem or complaint. Love my Cruze grin

Dee of Robina Posted on 21 March 2010 1:34am
  • and there is another recall to come very soon.....

    David Posted on 20 March 2010 9:34pm
  • ali the Cruze is a global gm car that happens to be built in the ex daewoo plant controlled by Holden make sure your facts a right before you flap off and look like a fool

  • We have had our Cruze CDX for 4 months now and have already had to take it back and have the clutch replaced due to it not going into reverse properly... Holden were great with the way they handled it and their customer service was the best i have come across ,however this comes of no surprise to me that there is a problem with the car in fact we are already looking at our next car due to the car how unhappy we are with the cruze as a whole and would never buy a Holden again... it doesn't matter where a car is built or who buy but when you spend 29k on a car you have certain expectations based on what you were told when you bought the car and the marketing.

  • I have had my Holden Cruze for about 6 months and I can not find one thng to complain about, I have the 2lt deisel and I'm getting 4.8lL/100ks and it goes like a bullet. I had the best customer service from Central Coast Holden at Gosford and I just love my Cruze. Ali, pull ya head in, who gives a rats arse where the car is built, typical moron. Go Holden... Go Cruze!

Nunya Zimmer of Muswellbrook Posted on 18 March 2010 10:27pm
  • Why are people complaining? If you buy a cheap car made in Korea you must expect a cheap level of quality. To Lachlan ... how can you be "conned" into buying a car? Plenty of good cars in that class; Lancer, Mazda 3, Corrolla, Golf and even the Hyundai i30. Yet you still went for the Daewoo Cruze... interesting...

Ali of Kambah Posted on 18 March 2010 5:16pm
  • Hey Lachlan. If I were you I would take it to the media. It's not good enough! Pull your socks up Holden!

  • There is also a real problem with the electrical system. We purchased our Cruze on 10th December 2009 where we were promised that we would have it before christmas. After many wild stories and failed promises we finally took delivery of the car in the 3rd week of January 2010. We had the car for 4 days then the dash lighting, ignition system, audio system and engine warning lights etc were working intermittently. After 3 times taking the car back to the dealership, and the problem is still remaining. They have had the car now for 4 weeks and it is still not fixed. Not only that but the so called Holden Customer Care don't really care less. We asked that someone in a senior role contact us and no one ever did. We feel like we have been conned into buying this lemon of a car and no one cares less. I have always loved Holdens but have sworn never to buy one ever again after the appalling service we have had with this one. Holden Customer Care - get your act together!

  • Also replacement parts will be here by next week & all cars should be fixed by late next week. Good work Holden for not trying to cover it up unlike Toyota. Sales will be down this month but are expected to pick up again to the 2000-sales mark in april. Go HOLDEN!
