Ford won?t recall faulty Falcons

image Ford will not recall any Falcons but will continue to perform updates on rear brakes of affected models during service.

Ford Falcons with potentially faulty brakes will not be recalled, the carmaker says.

This is despite Ford recalling Territory models with similar problems.

Ford communications manager Sinead McAlary said they had investigated the problem and found only a small number of BA and early BF Falcons had problems with the rear brake hoses.

In March, Ford issued a recall on more than 83,000 Territory vehicles to rectify a front brake hose problem occurring on less than two per cent of the vehicles.

McAlary said they did not have an issue with the front brakes on the Falcon.

“Seventy per cent of braking is done with the front brake and they still stop well on the (faulty) rear brakes,” she said.

Ford would not recall any Falcons but would continue to perform an update on the rear brakes of affected models when they were booked in for a regular service, McAlary said.

The issue was brought to the attention of Ford after owners reported the failure to Carsguide.

  • Our rear 2004 BA Ford brake hoses failed resulting in a near miss. The front brakes where still operational and after a second kicked in. The braking capacity of our vehicle was severely diminished. As it turns out, after googling the problem because I was so shocked that braking could fail so instantaniously, it turns out Ford has known about this problem for years. The brake hoses are faulty; I believe they made them too short. What Ford has done is issue a ?service recall?. Therefore, the problem with the brake hoses will only be addressed if you service your Ford at a Ford service centre. This was not advertised. If you service your car elsewhere, Ford has wiped its hands from the responsibility of ensuring your car is safe. The brake hoses are faulty, According to Australian standards this is ok because eventually the front brakes kick in..If you drive one of these vehicles lets just hope you are not travelling at a 100kms an hour and need to brake when your brake hoses decide to split. I requested that Ford reimburse my repair, seeing it should have been free had I serviced my car at Fords, they checked genuine parts where used and then told me to go away -No real recall??

  • i had a company ba sedan. brake hard and the pedal would go to the floor. after several trips and arguing with pacific ford ,they finally agreed there was a problem, and replaced the rear hoses which were faulty.

  • Despite how good the cars may or may not be by my experience everything about your Ford ownership experience will be downhill as you experience the bumbling ineptitude of many of their dealers - I've ended up with having to have subsequent return visits just to fix the things damged or incorrectly done - and many times - pity as the cars have a lot of potential

  • I agree with Disappointed of Melbourne, that they need to fix it and not to leave it until the next service. If Ford can do that then people will stay with them, but if not you will see people go to other car dealers to buy their cars.

  • What a shocker! Ford Territory Brake problem front brake hoses to short and body paint and rust problems wy go near them? I gave up years ago changed brands thou every car manufacturer have problems as well. I bought a new car it was a lemon and i mean a lemon! they relised this thank god and they replaced it with a new car. They admitted they get about 5 a year and unfortunately i got one. I didn't jump up or down they just simply replaced it.

  • I see that some Australian manufacturers still haven't learnt from past mistakes. If they used te sae quality control on local market products as they do on the export market this problem would be less prevelent.

  • OK I dont trust my local ford dealer to service my car anymore. They 'failed' to discover and rectify my faulty ball joint whilst my BA was under warrantee. So basically if im not prepared to spend rediculous amount of money for theyre inferior servicing then I have no chance of them repairing my brakes. And to think I was considering to trade for a Territory.

  • What a crock - whilst it might be true that 70% of braking is done by front brakes that still leave 30% by rears, so - Ford fix the cars. This is a safety issue not a PR stunt. You claim 5 star safety with questionable brakes you cannot possibly continue with this claim. No I am NOT a Holden driver either. No manufacturer is immune to problems but what the hell are they thinking - if it were a squeaking dashboard then yep next service is fine. Financial crisis or not - this is not a way to gamble with peoples lives.
