Sydney’s Oran Park will be alive with the sound of controlled mayhem on September 20 as Australia’s top drifters battle for the 2009 Drift Nationals crown.

This will be the final year of the championship being a one-day event, with the growing popularity of the sport leading to it having a multi-round format in 2010. The Drift Nationals will also be the final major event held at the popular Sydney circuit before it closes at the end of the year.

Drift Australia director James Fava says the organisation is excited by the potential of drifting in Australia, and are fully committed to its development. “Our aim is to take the awareness of Drifting as a competitive sport to a whole new level and I think the 2009 Drift Nationals at Oran Park will be a great starting point leading into a full championship in 2010,” Fava says.

This year’s competition will see 32 drivers battle for the crown as Australian Drift Champion, while the country’s best emerging drifters will also hit track in the Super Drift Series. “The 2009 Drift Nationals will feature the best line-up of drifters ever assembled in Australia,” Fava says.

Off-track entertainment will include Remote Control Drifting – a groundbreaking version of the main event — an automotive trade show, a CarWars Show featuring the best builders and modifiers in the country and a Pioneer Sound-Off.

One lucky event goer will also win their very own track-ready drift car – a track-ready Nissan Silvia – thanks to SABER, including lessons from leading Drift Australia driver Wiehrl, who finished third in the 2007 Drift Australia Series.

Powered by Nissan’s renowned SR20DET engine, the Silvia features the finest components from a number of leading drift suppliers, including a SABER intercooler and radiator. Steering and suspension expertise from D-Project, an Xtreme Drift Clutch and Federal’s SS 595 tyres provide optimum performance across the board.  For more information, visit www.driftaustralia.com.au
