Beau Yates (Toyota TRD AE86 Sprinter) won the final round.

There were clouds of smoke and plenty of fire in the competition as the final round of the 2008 Drift Australia Championships was fought out last weekend.

Competitors from around the country battled it out at Oran Park Raceway south of Sydney for two elusive spots at the World Championships to be held in the USA in November.

The event featured two full days of drifting action, which also included the Toyo Tyres Super Drift Series, Expression Sessions, Max Entry Speed runs and trick motorbike action.

Beau Yates (Toyota TRD AE86 Sprinter) won the final round with second place going to Adelaide’s Leighton “The Crab Man” Fine (Team CTS Nissan 180SX) who gained enough points to become the 2008 champion.

Third place went to Luke Fink (Holford Motors Nissan Silvia) with a strong performance all weekend.

Good to see TRD is making a go of it in Australia with them now participating in many different motor-racing events. Simon Evans and Neal Bates compete in the Australian Rally Championship (ARC) with the TRD Corolla's while Tony Wedlock challenges the Drag Racing scene with his 1300kw (1800hp) Supra powered Aurion Drag Car that has an official qtr mile time of 6.46 secs (6.86 secs at Willowbank recently) Also ... Peter Kittle races in the Australian Off-Road Rally Championship with his buggy powered by a 3.5 v6 (2GR-FE) which is the same engine found in the Aurion and lesson learned from this has has enbale TRD to consider a drag racing derivative of the engine while Beau Yates has been performing strongly in the Australian Drift Racing Championship. Before i forget, Neal Bates and Simon Evans also race 2 modified Road Racing TRD Aurions in different events such as Targa Tasmania, Targa West, 12 Production Car Race (Bathurst), Street meets and so on.
