Tonneau trouble

I ORDERED a hard, lockable tonneau for my new Ford FG XR6 Turbo ute. When its lock failed I took it to a different dealer from the one I'd bought the vehicle from, but he would not fix it because it was not a genuine Ford product. All Ford dealers buy the covers from the one Queensland company. I argued the point with the dealer and Ford Customer Care that I bought the vehicle from Ford and ordered it with the cover, and nowhere on my invoice or order does it say the cover is not covered by Ford warranty. I paid for the cover through Ford and it made a profit from it. Ford Customer Care and the dealer said I must take it back to the original dealer to have it fixed. However, Ford Customer Care offered to do my 15,000km service free because of the inconvenience, which to me is admitting liability. I spoke to the Department of Fair Trading in NSW and it's willing to take up my complaint. I'd like to ask Ford president Marin Burela why Ford is happy to sell these items knowing they are not covered by Ford warranty, and it doesn't disclose that to the consumer until there is a warranty issue. If customer service is on his mind, I think he needs to have a good look at the practices Ford uses to sell vehicles. It's misleading for Ford salesmen to give you a brochure or try to hard-sell options knowing Ford will not honour those options under its warranty.

The difference between a great result and a bloody brilliant one is about 30 years of rally experience, I discovered as the 3000km Global Green Challenge rolled into Adelaide.

andrew on Who was greenest, and why? - 06 November 2009 4:10pm the simple reason that toyota chose not to enter the prius was likely to record an INCREASE in tested fuel economy, or no improvement. the prius performs best in town, where it hybrid drivetrain can best improve on a petrol engines failings. out on the highway, a pruis is just another small car with a small petrol engine, however aerodynamic. as to the HSV, in a numbers game, it had the most to gain, starting from a higher point. only the (discontinued) w427 uses more fuel according to the ADR consumtion test. The minis and the ford took a knife to a gunfight. a clear win to the HSV marketing team.

John Bisset on Tonneau trouble - 06 November 2009 9:38am

Why would you not take it back to the original selling dealer? In my experience it is the selling dealer who makes the profit on the sale, not everything is covered by the manufacturers warranty and the selling dealer takes on some responsibility for warranty so going to another dealer and expecting him to pay? I wouldnt want to pay if I was that dealer.

Garth Rudlin of Scoresby on Hyundai drops Elantra LPG plan - 06 November 2009 9:24am I can't believe Hyundai Australia would miss an opportunity to bring the LPG hybrid to take on Toyota. Business case or not this is a serious prospect considering we have enough LPG to last 200 years making the running costs and future infrastructure very sound business in Australia!!
