Moment of impact - a block of wood smashes through Wendy Cobb's windscreen.

The film clip is only 40 seconds long, but it's already a contender for the scariest car crash video ever.

And amazingly, the driver who filmed a six-foot long plank flying through her windscreen on her phone camera escaped without a scratch.

Since Wendy Cobb posted it on YouTube there have been hundreds of thousands of views of the terrifying moment the piece of wood struck her Kia Sedona minivan, the Daily Mail reports.

The heart-stopping drama came as 40-year-old Wendy drove alone along the highway in Shelby, North Carolina in the US on April 1.

But the incident, which has been confirmed by local police, was no joke for her.

She told car website Jalopnik: "I don't know why I didn't scream or cuss or cry, I guess just pure shock. I could barely form words to call 911". Wendy was filming the illegal antics of two trucks playing "cat and mouse" and holding up traffic before the accident.

She said she had intended to send the footage to the truck companies owners.

  • Perhaps if she this stupid woman spent more time driving and less time playing with the video camera this might not have happened. A lesson for all drivers, keep a 2 second gap between you and the car in front. Pretty simple and good practice.

  • This is a good reason not to follow to closely to the back of some-one. Also it should be a warning to people carting loads to ensure that that the load is secured properly. Any debris that is allowed to fall onto the road can become life threatening. In this case it was a piece of wood laying on the road before it was catapulted into the Kia.
