Mega Man-Pram makes parenting a bloke's job

Just in time for a right royal stint, Skoda has revealed the king of prams: the RS Mega Man-Pram; a giant -- and outlandish -- baby pram that features in an ad campaign for the new Octavia RS performance models. Effectively a standard baby pram wearing giant 20 inch wheels and other faux-racer addenda, Skoda’s tongue-in cheek description defines it as: “a high performance vehicle that has been designed to provide the ultimate baby transportation experience,” that is the ultimate accessory for new dads, and is “fit for a king.”

That reference is probably aimed at young George Alexander Louis, but you’d probably need the entire cargo space of his dad’s armoured Range Rover to ferry it to the shops.

The Octavia RS ad in question depicts the upcoming RS (the fastest Skoda ever) driving down a typical suburban street, past several caricaturised versions of everyday urban scenery.

Aside from the Mega Man-Pram, this includes a monster truck-ified ice-cream truck, V8 lawnmower, jet-powered BBQ, seven-chisel jackhammer, a giant kid’s trike plus several other embellishments.

The operators of these parodies all look to the Octavia RS with gawking envy; an aura Skoda is no doubt hoping the RS will cast over the entire Octavia lineup.

Skoda claims to have surveyed 1000 fathers before constructing the Mega Man-Pram, where 76 per cent responded that they would be more inclined to push their baby in a higher-spec pram. The Mega Man-Pram is apparently comprised of the respondents’ collective definition of higher-spec.

"The ‘RS Mega Man-Pram’ proves what you can do when you take the RS vision off road and drive it straight into the nursery. The high tech-buggy gives a tongue in cheek sense of what you could experience if you RS’d your life," Skoda’s UK marketing boss Heidi Cartledge says.

The new Skoda Octavia RS was officially unveiled last month, before making its public debut at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Octavia RS is expected to go on sale locally early next year, after the rest of the Octavia lineup arrives in late 2013.
