The Shinari is expected to get its official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in September,

The future look of Mazda went on show this week in Milan with the unveiling of a new concept car.

The Shinari is the first car from Mazda's new design direction named ‘Kodo’, which is Japanese for ‘the soul of motion’.

While the streamlined shape suggests a coupe, the flowing lines camouflage the four-door body, following in the path set by the Mercedes-Benz CLS and similar luxury brands who have developed ‘four-door coupes’.

The Shinari is expected to get its official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in September, but was unveiled at the preview event by Mazda design boss Ikuo Maeda, who says it points to the next generation of cars and also to other elements that will be revealed in the future.

  • What a wonderful looking concept especially after the dissappointing production version of the current Mazda 6 which replaced such the original pretty but sharp looking six. This is back to form in design and style wise over the current big happy face look which has been less than pleasing to the eye and very gimmicky looking and not the great seller Mazda had hoped it would be. I even held onto my original six due to the fact the current six just killed the excitement the original evoked, well done Mazda back to beautiful designs again.

  • At least Mazda puts out Concept Cars, I suggest if you do not want a "gas guzzler" then do not buy a sports car... to suggest a sports car should be "economical" is just ridiculous and naive. I fail to see where Mazda is "following the path" of Mercedes Benz CLS as the writer suggests. Last time I checked the Mazda RX-8 is a 4 door coupe and was released world-wide before the CLS, so who is following who?

  • Yet another concept car from Mazda, and no replacement on the horizon yet for the seven year old, gas-guzzling RX-8. Is this the Mazda philosophy? Put out ever more concept cars instead of actually making a genuinely competitive halo car? The double swoop is unfortunate, creating the impression of two bumps instead of smoothly flowing lines. Mazda are showing all the symptoms of severe plot loss in the design department.
