Schumacher in Top Gear Stig hoax

Recently on the British Top Gear episode Stig removed his helmet revealing the former F1 champ Michael Shumacher.

Michael Schumacher has tried to pass himself off as The Stig in a British episode of Top Gear.

In the latest of a series of stunts designed to cover the fact that another Stig – race and stunt driver Ben Collins — has blown his cover, Jeremy Clarkson introduced the Stig and had him remove his helmet, revealing the former F1 champ underneath.

However those who have seen the footage of the show says the Schumacher Stig drove erratically, stalled the Reasonably Priced Car, and nearly crashed into the camera crew.

Earlier this year, Collins was outed as the current Stig, after ordering a print run of posters showing the mysterious ‘tame test driver’.

His stint as The Stig follows that of former F1 driver Perry McCarthy – the black Stig – who outed himself and then supposedly disappeared into the ocean after a stunt drive off an aircraft carrier .

A video on Youtube earlier this year showing a Black Stig reappearing from the sea off Britain suggested that the black firesuit may return.

It seems likely that the Schumacher ‘outing’ is a typical Top Gear stunt — highly unlikely to be true – concocted by the show’s producers and probably seen by Schumacher as a fun way to fill in an idle hour.

  • The usual Stig isn't michael schumi and I think everyone knows that. However on that episode Schumi was indeed the stig in the FXX. Schumi has driven that car many times at Mugello in Italy. I've seen him driving it at break neck speeds and even heard a Ferrari PR person say when ever they demonstrate this car they use Michael as the driver and that's the agreement. You people need to put this issue to rest and get a life!

  • VA, you have it so wrong. We love Clarkson and May – and can tolerate Hammond for a surprising amount of time. The only time we’ve been disappointed with them was when they faked the Ferraris in the Top Gear Live show that toured here. We’ve also watched the Schumacher Stig splash with interest, mostly amazed at the people who bought into the story. Karla Pincott, Carsguide ------------------------------- I sense some resentment from Carsguide towards Topgear. It wasn't a hoax, just a way of humouring the crowd. At the end they even came out and said they suspected Michael Shumacher wasn't the real Stig.

  • Ken I Agree. Save us from Top Gear Australia!!! As for the Stig, I swear they said Desmond TuTu was the Stig /end sarcasim. There is nothing concrete with Ben Collins, the BBC throws up so much smoke and mirros on this that even if they did come out noone would believe them

  • For episode 1 season 13, the stig was schumacher as his personal ferrari FXX was driven around the top gear track

  • The Stig is Ben Collins a British driver from Bristol England. He races in World Sportscars and the IMSA series in the US. The only other Stig was Perry McCarthy, a black driver who was sacked after he reveiled his identity in an autobigraphy. All of this is shown on Youtube film clips.

  • Great story and a bit of fun with Michael, however, the real Stig holds his ground, and isn't yet revealed... Fantastic show, and Please, please, please, guys come to Australia and rescue your names sakes here... Our version of Top Gear is abysmal in comparison to the UK version.
