Jaguar's XJR-rated limousine

Jaguar has given its flagship limousine the R-rated treatment of more power, better performance and a sleeker appearance. The Jaguar XJR returns to the range less than two years after the new generation sedan went on sale.

The new generation Jaguar XJR was unveiled on the eve of the New York motor show overnight.

It is powered by a 404kW/680Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8 said to complete the 0 to 100kmh dash in 4.6 seconds, putting it in the same company as Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-Benz AMG models.

Subtle changes to the front bumper, side moulds and rear boot spoiler are the only clues to the power upgrade. Other distinguishing features: charcoal-coloured forged alloy wheels and discreet R badging on its flanks.

“The XJR offers greater steering precision, higher levels of control and enhanced high speed stability, with the trade-off in refinement being very small. The [changes] give this car truly effortless, seamless performance,” Jaguar chief engineer Mike Cross said in the media briefing.
