Ford is now recalling its Focus and Mondeos to check problem with brake vacuum pumps.

Ford?s brake woes won't go away? now it?s the Focus and Mondeo.

Two months after Ford Australia fixed a potentially dangerous brake defect on some versions of its Territory, the company is now recalling its Focus and Mondeos to check problem with brake vacuum pumps.

The recall for the LV Focus and MA Mondeo, built since last year, only affects those with a diesel engine.

Ford says under certain conditions the supply of vacuum to the brake booster may be reduced causing a hard brake pedal and increase stopping distances. Ford is contacting known owners by mail.

In March, Ford recalled more than 83,000 Territories to fix a brake hose defect which was uncovered by Carsguide after complaints from readers.

  • Getting past all the Toyota bashing, just had an interesting thought. Would this recall mean a possible recall of the Mazda3 also as it shares the same platform as the Focus (and to some degree Mondeo)????

  • That might be true Luke, but you, like anyone who has seen your Toyota, have been bored stupid by its dull looks, porridge like steering and uninspiring performance. No one really cares that they last for a millions years because you would have lapsed into a coma 5 minutes after delivery!

  • Glad you think the Camry's are perfect Luke. Here's a brief run down of their recalls!! 1994: Potential Exists For The Steering Wheel Retaining Nut To Loosen And Cause The Steering Wheel To Become Loose. 1995: Potential Exists For One Side Of The Seat Track Lockikng Mechanism Of The Two Front Seats To Only Partially Engage Or Not Engage At All. 1996: The Dimmer Switch Contact Points And Contact Arms May Become Overheated And Cause Erratic Operation Of The Headlights. 2005: The No 1 rear suspension arm may have been incorrectly welded. In instances where the weld is not to specification the arm may break at the bush housing weld area and in the worst case vehicle directional control may be affected. 2006: The headlamp switch contact points over time may oxidise (corrode) due to insufficient current flow through the switch. This oxidation may cause the headlamps (low or high beam) to flicker without warning and in the worst case may cause the headlamps to extinguish momentarily. They all sound more dangerous to me than a heavy brake pedal.

  • What does stating your pathetic choice of a car add to a story about a Ford? Can this site remove comments made by the ever present Toyota PR machine, they are everywhere on aussie motor sites and I am sick of being subjected to propaganda. Luke gt or whatever you will call yourself on the next story when you add your mite, if you write spin for a living you should at least learn to construct a sentence.... Completely reliable cars although my next purchase will be an Aurion Sportivo. An answer to an unasked question and a statment all in one sentance, are you on lsd or are you just over excited by a car that can go straight with the steering at lock? GT doesn't mean geared tall it's gran turismo or grand tourer, toyota don't do those sort of cars. Down with toyota paid spin!

  • I have been driving the Toyota Camry for 15 yrs and have barely had an issue with any of the 3 different models i have owned in that time. Completely reliable cars although my next purchase will be an Aurion Sportivo.
