Ferrari 599 GTO

Only 500 examples of the Ferrari 599 GTO are expected to be built for select Ferrari customers worldwide.

Things at Ferrari are leaking like an old Fiat left out in the rain.

Hard on the heels of a European price guide hitting the web for the yet to be launched Ferrari 599 GTO, images of the newest magic from Maranello have emerged.  And it is hardly surprising that the new GTO looks a lot like the 599XX, including the heavily ventilated bonnet.

The ventilated bonnet is necessary to clear the engine heat from the worked over 6.0-litre V12.  Although official details are expected to be revealed on Friday, the GTO is tipped to develop close to 520kW and the V12 will bellow out to 9000 revs.

The word is that the mean machine will hit 100km/h in around 3.2 seconds and have a top speed of more than 250km/h.  Ferrari is also said to have shaved weight out of the car, particularly the interior, by as much as 60kg.

Only 500 examples are expected to be built for select Ferrari customers.  Leak details of pricing and equipment reveal that the car will cost the equivalent of $461,238 overseas, but by the time you add in the relevant taxes and charges it will be much, much more here.

For the equivalent of an extra $11,222 you can get the entire engine compartment fitting out in carbon fibre while an upgraded leather interior will cost $6388 and a bespoke luggage set will cost $8632.

  • Holdenmad, you really need to stop it with the attempted insults, the whole 'idiot' 'your stupid' thing is getting old and immature. Not everything in this world will appeal to everyone. Are you saying you have friends that have a 599 GTO?

  • Shaun, you really are stupid. Who said anything about being practical. These cars are not built to be practical, they're built for speed and driving pleasure. Not for idiots like you. I have friends that have them and have driven these cars. I bet you havn't even started one up let alone driven one. Once you have, only then will any comments you say be valid.

  • @Holdenmad... the way you talk you sound like your 15... it's an awesome car, I'm not denying that, it would be great to have one... it just isn't practical for an everyday car now is it?

  • @Mark and Shaun, buy a Prius and shut up so that the true car nuts can dream about one day driving one of these cars. I don't care, but some 15 year old that reads this article may just read your once again stupid comments. Every young child in the world dreams of owning one of these cars, and it's not going to be long before they go (euro targets) So take your head out of your butts, and enjoy them while they are here.

  • To the people that buy these cars it's not about how fast they are, it's a status symbol and even "The Weekend Cruiser" they are not every-day cars you go and get the groceries in. Top speeds and 0-100 times are only there to entice buyers and create competition between companies. The real point of these cars is to push forward new technologies like new composite materials, new cutting edge designs, and even improved safety features. Which end up trickling into main stream applications "eventually". When our average cars are deemed 'not up to standard'. Anyway it's good to see that there are still car companies which aren't run by accountant 'cost cutting' engineers whose idea of a car is quantity over quality.

  • mark is right... whats the point? wow it can get to the top legal speed in 3.2 seconds...... seriously cars like this are pointless in Australia (as with most of the big local V8's)

  • To Mark of SA, go ride a bike dude!

  • What's the use having a car like this when most cars will get you over the standard 50/60km/h suburban speed limit in first gear. Driving a car like this on the road is a waste of time. You need a track for it to show it's full performance.

  • 'Top speed of more than 250kmh'... Gee I'd hope so. I think they meant 350kmh.
