THIEVES have used a mini-excavator to smash their way into a Gold Coast bank in a failed attempt to steal an ATM.
About 4am this morning the bulldozing bandits broke through a wall of the Nerang Westpac on Station Street.
''They haven't been successful but they've put a big hole in the wall,'' police regional duty officer, Inspector Geoff Palmer, said.
