Aston Martin Virage takes to the hills

  • By Mitchell Oke

If the DB9 is a bit too soft, and the DBS a bit too hard, Aston Martin have released a car they believe is just right.

The Virage, Italian for “turn” and “bend”, fills in the gap between the DB9 grand tourer and DBS sports car.

Based on the same aluminium underpinnings as the DB9/DBS, the Virage is powered by a 365-kilowatt version of the acclaimed 6.0L V12. The engine is matched to a traditional auto box, eschewing the trend towards dual-clutch transmissions. The ZF 6-speed Touchtronic 2 is sourced from the DB9, with a limited slip diff to keep the right wheels spinning.

With a price tag slightly above the DB9, the 2+2 Virage justifies the bump with tweaked styling, a new Garmin navigation system, revised suspension and steering, and, most impressively, carbon ceramic brakes.

  • Sounds better than the last "Virage" sold in Australia. By Renault.
