GM-Holden has clarified the findings of a US crash test for a General Motors utility not sold here.

"The Holden Colorado that is sold in Australia was not tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the US," says Holden Australia spokeswoman Kate Lonsdale.  The model tested was the Chevrolet Colorado built and sold in the United States.

Ms Lonsdale said that although both Colorados were initially derived from the same Isuzu platform, they are two different vehicles.  The Chevrolet version, model GMT355, is built with different steel and to a different specification to the Holden Colorado model C190.

The frame and all panels are manufactured in different plants.  The Chevrolet Colorado is built at Shreveport, Louisana and the Holden Colorado in Rayong, Thailand.

Ms Lonsdale said the performance of the two vehicles would differ in this roof crush test and said it was ‘pure speculation’ to suggest otherwise.  In Australia, the Holden Colorado has been tested by the Australian New Car Assessment Program and received a 3-star safety rating.

  • Chris of Geelong. The Colerado/Isuzu D-max is made in Thailand as is the Toyota Hilux, The Mitsubishi Triton and most of Honda's range. Hardly poor quality cars. These plants in Thailand are very modern and they make so many utes it would suprise you. I always find it funny that Aussies consider themselves such a UTE country when the reality is that 8 out of 10 cars in SE Asia are UTE's as you can fit a whole work force in the back!

  • Dear Holden Mad, Which fellow mates are you sticking up for? GM who owns Holden is a US company, profits go to the US. The Australian delivered Colorado is build in Thailand. The only profit that stay here is the dealers, and that is no different to any imported car. Personally I would have more faith in the US made version and we have seen how that went!!

  • Typical idiots that speak before they think. I'm sick to death of people slamming the great product that Holden is. Do you hear of me slamming Ford, are we Australians sticking up for our fellow mates or are we turning into a bunch of over opinionated wannabes. These overseas companies take food off our tables and jobs, we buy cars overseas but the profit stays here. Good on you Holden stick it up them.
