More power, less gear shifting, less money!

The Lotus Evora, the range topping mid-engined sports car from the legendary British motorsport company, has been radically upgraded by the new Australian importer with two new variants added to the range, a wealth of new equipment and features and a new price.

Lotus EvoraThe range is now topped by the first of two new variants, the Lotus Evora S, which is fitted with a new supercharged engine that boosts engine performance from 206 to 257.5 kW, endowing the Evora with supercar performance. Sitting in the middle of the new range, the Lotus Evora IPS offers a new automatic gearbox that combines the performance and responsiveness for which the Evora is renowned with the ease of use of a self-shifting gearbox.

The Lotus Evora is now lavishly equipped with nearly all the previous options list converted into standard equipment. This means that accept lighting, premium deep pile carpet, heated seats, fully leather trimmed interior, high grade audio system with seven inch touch screen display, SatNav, subwoofer and high quality speakers, cruise control, parking sensors, Bi-Xenon headlights and remote tyre sensors are now all standard.

The Lotus Evora

The first all-new Lotus since the iconic Elise roadster made its debut in 1995, the Evora entered the sports car market as the world’s only production mid-engined 2+2.

The Evora provides a tremendously rewarding driving experience: the mid-engined layout gives exceptional agility and the Lotus engineered suspension ensures incredible ride and handling. Powered by a Lotus-tuned 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 206 kW @ 6400 rpm, and weighing just 1382 kg, the Evora delivers an exhilarating experience true to the Lotus DNA characteristics.

With the zero to 100 kmh sprint taking just 5.1 seconds  a top speed of 261 kmh and an Official European Combined Cycle fuel economy just 33.2 mpg (8.5 litres / 100 km) and emissions of just 199 g/km CO2 the Evora stays true to the ethos of performance through light weight. The other economy figures are equally impressive with Official European Urban Cycle of 12.1 litres/100 km) and 6.3 litres / 100 km for the Official European Extra Urban Cycle all combined with exceptional ride and handling.

Because one of the roles of the Evora is to attract new customers, as well as performance aficionados to the Lotus brand, the Evora offers a more refined ownership experience than Lotus’ existing smaller four cylinder models. Its elegantly styled cabin is beautifully trimmed and its equipment list includes contemporary features such as an advanced touchscreen multi-media system and electric power-fold door mirrors. Careful attention has also been paid to its ease of use; with wider, taller door apertures, narrower sills and higher seating position making getting in and out of the cabin a less athletic undertaking than it is in Lotus’ smaller sports cars whilst the design of the cabin itself will accommodate two 99th percentile (6ft 5in / 196 cm tall) American males in the front seats.

Manufactured by Lotus Lightweight Structures, the Evora uses the same award winning chassis that enable the Elise to boast the world’s first bonded and extruded aluminium chassis. It is produced by combining extruded aluminium sections that are bonded together, a combination that produces a total weight for the chassis of just 206 kg. But lightness does not mean a lack of strength. Indeed, its structure will absorb three times as much energy in an accident as an equivalent steel structure and with a stiffness of 26,600 Nm/degree; it provides the ideal basis for accurate, responsive suspension.

Lotus Evora IPSThe Evora, of course, has fully independent front and rear suspension, using forged aluminium double wishbone suspension, front and rear anti roll bars, Eiback spring and Bilstein shocks, but it’s the way that Lotus test drivers and engineers have worked together to make sure that the Evora offers handling and road holding that is, quite simply, a new benchmark. The steering response is peerless, ride quality composed and the Evora offers unrivalled driving pleasure in all conditions.

The mechanical side of the suspension is backed by the full range of electronic suspension acronyms, starting with CBC or Corner Brake Control, which redistributes brake force during cornering to ensure braking during corners does not throw the car off the desired line. Drag Torque Control (DTC) eliminates torque induced wheel lock up during quick down shifts by matching engine and road speeds; the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) has been calibrated specifically for the Evora to maximise safety and minimise its intervention and maximise driver enjoyment.

The ABS brakes are fitted with the latest Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) to enable the driver to get the absolute maximum stopping power when required and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) to cope with changing grip levels. The Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Traction Control System (TCS) ensure that under all conditions the Evora can lay down the maximum power and torque safely and effectively. The DPM with Sports Mode button increases the traction slip thresholds and removes understeer recognition, allowing the driver more vehicle control before an electronic intervention is required.

For track use with the exception of the ABS, HBA and EBD, these systems may be turned off to enable the driver to have maximum fun and enjoyment.

The ‘convenience factor’ of the Evora extends to all areas of the car. For instance, beneath the skin the entire front-end structure is a high tech aluminium “sacrificial” modular unit, with bolt on attachment to the main extruded aluminium tub. This modular unit is not only designed to deform for maximum safety and to make the production assembly process more efficient, but also to reduce repair costs in the event of a frontal impact.

The Evora is hand crafted and built on a dedicated new assembly line within Lotus’ advanced manufacturing facility at Hethel in the East of England; capacity limitations restrict production to approximately 2000 cars a year, thus ensuring this dynamic sports car’s rarity and exclusivity.

The Lotus Evora IPS

The IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) version of the Lotus Evora adds a six speed automatic gearbox to the Evora that allows the driver to switch between manual paddle shift and automatic drive modes. The driver also has the option of selecting ‘sport’ mode which showcases the Lotus sport driving experience allowing the driver to really feel each gear shift and be in complete control of the transmission.

Based on a Toyota gearbox for durability and reliability, the IPS gearbox has been provided with a new computer programme developed specially to suit the Evora and its drivers by Lotus. This means that while it offers the ease of use and convenience of a conventional automatic, its responsiveness and its effective application of performance is exactly in line with the Lotus Ethos.

The Lotus Evora S

Lotus have taken the award winning Evora and re-created it with a 257.5 kW 3.5l V6 engine to create the Evora S. With a Harrop HTV 1320 supercharger assembly utilising Eaton Twin Vortex Series (TVS) Technology developed by Lotus, performance is lifted into the supercar bracket, with a 0-100 kmh time of 4.8 seconds and, where permitted, a top speed of 277 kmh. Yet, thanks to the advanced light weight engineering pioneered by Lotus, the Evora S still offers fuel consumption that borders on economy car, with 7.3 l/100 on the open road and a respectable 10.0 l/100 km on the combined cycle.
