Volkswagen Tiguan Tdi

It may have a funny name - made up, they say, from tiger and iguana - but there is nothing silly about the Tiguan.

This second cousin to a Golf is a delight to drive, belying the fact that it is a soft-roader.

With few of the vices associated with many SUVs trying to be all things to all people, the Tiguan is a relaxed drive with big reductions in noise, vibration and harshness.

The well-proven 2-litre turbodiesel is suited to the car with ample performance from its 103kW and 320Nm available over a reasonable spread.

Interior space is good with room and comfort guaranteed for four adults and space left over for a child in the rear seat.

Boot space is sufficient for a small family weekend away but capable of being considerably increased by folding part or all of the rear seat.

  • HAVE YOUR SAY - WHICH CAR DO YOU THINK SHOULD WIN?

Nice car however the annoynig space saver will limit its ability. The current advertising suggests that you can go from the “shopping centre to the beach.” Not with a space saver! Years ago Subaru marketed the Outback in a similar way and I and others complained that it required a full size spare to fulfill its marketing hype. Subaru exchanged my space saver for a full size and went on to do this in all future outbacks. My efforts to get VW Australia to do this have been fruitless. So much for customer care, the dealer is willing to but not the importer.

I am thrilled to bits with our Tiguan. It never ceases to surprise me that it does things better than I imagined. Acceleration and pick-up is amazing.Fuel consumtion is just a tad over 7 litres per 100 Km and the criticism about boot space is ill-founded - it’s quite adequate.

We are retired and do a lot of travelling we currently own a diesel 4x4 and are amazed by the economy and distance covered by a tank of fuel.
A Tiguan sounds like a very competant vehicle VW, are renowned builders of fine auto’s.

Having owned and enjoyed driving a 1.9 tdi golf hatchback for over 51000km i was immediately taken with the specs of the tiguan and because of if off rd ability as well i woud’nt hesitate buying one after i have finished with the golf
the economy of a vw diesel is exceptional and it’s power to weight ratio and gearing is just right
