Holden Sportwagon SS

This car puts the sex back into station wagons, so to speak.

We certainly could have done with a flash piece of kit like this when we were courting the young ladies at the drive-in. Sadly drive-ins are now pretty much defunct as are station wagons.

However, Holden's brave attempt to keep the wagon dream alive should be applauded.

It is an eminently suitable long-distance tourer and hauler with an enormous flat-floored cargo area, plenty of airy cabin space and comfortable seats. Perfect for the summer driving holidays.

The V8 engine is smooth and powerful and capably interpreted by the smooth six-speed transmission.

However, the 13.9L/100km thirst and aging interior (yes, even after just three years), count against it.

  • HAVE YOUR SAY - WHICH CAR DO YOU THINK SHOULD WIN?

The Holden Sportswagon SS would have to be the coolest and most functional car for Australia. Trouble is it will probably be years before everybody realises it , we have a tendancy to break everything we touch so what survives our tender loving care is usually the winner

I have driven the Sportwagon a couple of times. It is a sleek looking wagon that handles like a sedan. It has plenty of storage room and plenty of compartments for all those small things like sunglasses. The economy is good and there is no lack of power. Drives well and you don’t need much room to open the tailgate. Overall a great car.

Buy a holden anytime.  Australian jobs and manufacturing know how.
A no brainer.

I have had 3 holden wagons and they have all served me well The sportswagon not only cotinues that tradition but has possibly captured a new market of those wishing to scale down from the bulky 4 wheel drive models

i have driven many makes of vehicle while serving as a public servant in Darwin. Driving to remote areas excluded most of my fifty years driving has been in small towns and capital cities and you cannot beat the good old Holden.  Each new model has improved with quality and sustainability.  The maintenance and fuel consumption has always been the best.
