Holden Sportwagon SS

This car puts the sex back into station wagons, so to speak.

We certainly could have done with a flash piece of kit like this when we were courting the young ladies at the drive-in. Sadly drive-ins are now pretty much defunct as are station wagons.

However, Holden's brave attempt to keep the wagon dream alive should be applauded.

It is an eminently suitable long-distance tourer and hauler with an enormous flat-floored cargo area, plenty of airy cabin space and comfortable seats. Perfect for the summer driving holidays.

The V8 engine is smooth and powerful and capably interpreted by the smooth six-speed transmission.

However, the 13.9L/100km thirst and aging interior (yes, even after just three years), count against it.

  • HAVE YOUR SAY - WHICH CAR DO YOU THINK SHOULD WIN?

Daniel John - “I had a Toyota before I got my Holden Appollo” ummm… hate to tell you this… apollo = camry?? twit.

just when i thought gm had abandoned a significant part of its adherents, pushing sedans, coupes etc.,here is a vehicle which fulfills the needs of the tradesman, family man, community helper, weekend camper-fisherman. call it the ‘australis 21st’ (gts etc) viva holden well done. this is a winner in the market place.
