Audi A4 1.8T

The all-new A4 is an obvious contender...

... but we went with the front-drive four-door sedan with the 1.8-litre low-pressure turbocharged engine.

The German sedan is attractive, both inside and out, and surprisingly swift.

The four-cylinder engine delivers decent outputs across a broad rev range, with 118kW between 4500 and 6200 revs and 250Nm from 1500 to 4500 revs.

Driving the front wheels through a continuously-variable transmission helps make any trip a smooth, quiet and swift event that won't break the bank when it comes to filling up.

Importantly, the ride quality of the new A4 is better sorted than its predecessors and the overall package is quality, confidence and competence.

Excellent- [the Audi article is] well structured and informative enough to convince a new buyer.

Not sure about the other Cam but the Merc C class is an excellent vehicle. Not on this list for some reason. The Audi is the best of this bunch though

The Audi is a very under rated motor car. Has style and class to boot. Great car.

Well this Audi has been severely hyped and Im really not sure why - given their are better packages on the road for the same cash, namely the Lexus is250, the Alfa 159 and Merc C-class - all with superior driving dynamics and standard features. I had a weekend loan of the same A4 variant a few months ago from a dealer trying to sway me into a sale, and I was very underwhelmed, especially the cash I had to fork out for the endless options available.

It still baffles me how the driving media get all ga-ga about Audi. CarsGuide would want to present a pretty damn good case here, considering the afore-mentioned competition this Audi has in the market.
