Start to AIMS

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show has begun with a bang and the momentum continued throughout the entire opening weekend with visitors and industry guests impressed by the calibre of the vehicles and stands on show.

No expense was spared on the Media/Industry Preview Day on Thursday 18 October with exhibitors ensuring all guests were enthralled and entertained with elaborate unveilings and performances to reveal their latest vehicles to the Australian market.

“Media Day was certainly action-packed – on top of the impressive numbers of reveals including the two global reveals from Lexus and Mazda, we also had a flash mob unveiling the all-new Toyota Corolla and then Infiniti following later in the morning with a performance from Cirque du Soleil,” said Event Director, Russ Tyrie.

“Many brands also had their ambassadors on stand such as Lauryn Eagle for Hyundai, Olympians including Sally Pearson and James Magnusson for Mitsubishi and the US Ambassador even made an appearance to receive the keys to the first Holden Volt in Australia.”

The fun and action continued across the opening weekend with tens-of-thousands of visitors streaming through the doors on both Saturday and Sunday to see the latest, the greatest and in some instances, concept range of vehicles from exhibitors.

“We had people queuing to be one of the first through the doors when we opened on Friday morning, with the crowds continuing across the weekend.  These solid numbers are expected to continue throughout the entire Show, with the record number of tickets sold online providing a great indication of what to expect.”

Show organisers and exhibitors have many more special appearances and activities scheduled for the remainder of the Show to entertain visitors. “We have appearances from current and past motorsport legends on multiple stands, activities to entertain the whole family as well as many interactive features including the Ford Smart Drive Experience and the Toyota Tech Table and Safety Simulator and much more.”

The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour and will open daily at 10am from October 19 to 28.
