Porsche adds 1400 staff to handle Mission E electric vehicle

Porsche has announced that an additional 1,400 staff will be added to their headcount in the Stuttgart region to work on the development and production of the company’s first all-electric sports car.

There is little doubt that the electric car in question will be the production version of the Mission E concept car Porsche unveiled at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

According to Porsche, the Mission E is set to go into production at the brand’s Zuffenhausen headquarters at the end of the decade.

Of the 1,400 newly created jobs, Porsche plans to hire experts in the area of digitalisation, e-mobility, smart mobility, and vehicle connectivity. Porsche says that the Mission E’s production will bring more than just the brand’s first all-electric model, but it will also herald a “new era with new technologies” for the brand.

It is also said to be able to recharge 80 per cent of its driving range in 15 minutes thanks to the use of an 800V system.

Besides bringing the 440kW with 500km range Mission E concept to reality, Porsche is also planning to hire more than 100 IT specialists, 50 new employees for their newly established Porsche Digital GmbH on integrating new technologies in mobility solutions, and increase their apprentice numbers from 150 to 220.

The Mission E Concept is said to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds, and onto 200km/h in under 12 seconds. It is also said to be able to recharge 80 per cent of its driving range in 15 minutes thanks to the use of an 800V system, rather than the 400V system used on today’s electric cars. Porsche claims that they are a front-runner in introducing the 800V system, though it will require a special 800V charge port to achieve those remarkable recharging times.
