Elton John's Ferrari makes The Hills its home

But after being painstakingly imported from the UK it's now in need of a new home here in Australia.

The 1987 Ferrari Testarossa, which can go from 0-100km in under five seconds, was originally given to the flamboyant singer by his record company as a 40th birthday present.

It's currently on the market for $169,000 and comes with a certificate of authenticity - complete with Sir Elton John's signature.

The car's current owner Zen, who asked to have his last name withheld, purchased the car from a UK dealership after it was sold as part of a charity auction.

"I just stumbled on it and fell in love with it straight away," Zen, of Castle Hill, said. "The fact Elton John used to own it makes it extra special and adds to its presence on the road.

"It can be a bit surreal taking it for a spin, especially if I play one of his songs at the same time. I've picked up my son a few times from school in the car and people definitely do a few double-takes." Zen, who works in IT, said it would be hard to part with his piece of rock 'n' roll history but looked forward to reclaiming his garage space.

"Unfortunately I just don't have the time or space to enjoy it as much as I should," he said. "I saw it as somewhat of an investment because of its history so hopefully someone else will do the same." The car, which has done just over 10,000km, has been on the market since September.

It has a five-speed manual transmission and flat 12 cylinder petrol aspirated engine. Zen, a self-confessed car fanatic, said he had no immediate plans to purchase another luxury vehicle but would love to one day own a Daytona Spyder if he gets a green light from his wife.
