I drive a 1999 Holden Vectra hatch which has done 200,000km-plus. My mechanic tells me it's time to let it go as it needs a bit of work. I really like the car but have found it is quite expensive to replace parts and mechanics tend to hate working on it — there is always lots of groaning. I am looking to buy another small to medium car for our family of four. I travel about 50km a day so along with safety something fuel efficient is pretty important. The mechanics are steering me towards a second-hand Toyota Corolla of some type, a Hyundai i30 or pretty
much anything Japanese.
Go for the Hyundai i30. It will serve you well, it's cheaper than a Japanese car but just as good as anything short of the Mazda3, and you should be able to get one with some of the five-year factory warranty still to run. It gets The Tick from me.
