Golf compression problems

My 2009 VW Golf 118TSI has just experienced compression problems and I have been told that piston number four has cracked and the bill will be $7000 to rebuild the motor. Should I go straight to VW with this issue?

Yes. It is a well-documented problem with the 1.4-litre dual-charge engine; one that VW was fixing when it first cropped up a year or two ago. Your car is out of warranty so they might be reluctant to help you, but it's worth a try.
