The used Holden Epica diesel we have bought uses more fuel than I expected. The quoted figure for this car is 7.6 L/100 km, combined, but we are averaging around 10.3 L/100 km driving it in the city. That is not a huge amount less than I managed from our VT Commodore. We bought the car from a reputable Holden dealer, so I expect it should be running at its best right now.I know we should never expect to reproduce the quoted numbers, but I am wondering what would be a reasonable city-only figure to expect under the circumstances?
The average city consumption is around 9.2 L/100 km, less than you're experiencing, but probably within the ballpark. Diesels are at their best at constant speed, which is why the highway consumption is so low, but they're not that special in the city where you're constantly accelerating and slowing.
