RE: comparing the Camry and Mondeo. In the past three years I have driven a Camry hybrid about 80,000km and a Mondeo diesel about the same. The hybrid was more economical around town but with some freeway driving the Mondeo was more economical. A trip from Melbourne to Geelong and back, logged on the vehicle's trip computer, regularly averaged 5.8L/100km for the Camry and 5.4L for the Mondeo. Around the city the hybrid was 6.2L/100km the Mondeo averaged 6.8L/100km. I regularly get 1000km out of the Mondeo (tank capacity 68L, and the Camry is about 54L). I didn't like the CVT in the Camry Hybrid. The space in the back of the Mondeo is fantastic but it does drum at lower speeds as the auto drops into sixth about 75km/h.
Seems we got it right.
