Add The Extras

I HAVE an opportunity to buy a 1998 Mazda Metro 121 Shades 1.3-litre five-door hatch with 18,000km on the clock. I know it is genuine because it was my late mother-in-law's car. The rego ran out in July, and it has some damage on a rear door and front bumper. Otherwise it is in excellent condition, and has been regularly serviced. I can buy it for $5900. Do you think it's value for money? Peter C

THE price is average for that model and year, but you'll have to pay for registration as well anything needed to make it roadworthy. Add the body damage and it's starting to look less like a bargain. The low mileage is attractive, but find out how much you will have to spend to get it back on the road with a full year of rego. If it's more than $1000, think twice about it.
