Audi A1 Australia

Audi's baby A1 hatchback is designed for one thing and one thing only; getting warm bodies into a car adorned with the four rings. As a city runabout it has its charms, and it's a nice enough little car to drive.

The truth of the Volkswagen Polo-based A1 is that, with prices starting at $36,200 for the A1 30 Tfsi and topping of at $50,800 for the A1 40 Tfsi S Line, it's expensive for its size, and the cheaper it is, the less you get.

The A1 is offered locally with a variety of engines, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo, a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.8-litre petrol. The all-wheel drive S1 hot hatch was dropped for the A1's second generation, as the VW Group MQB A0 platform on which it sits cannot support AWD in the A1's configuration.
